Cat® Lift Trucks N-Series – Protects Your Investments
08/06/2005
When builders at Cat® Lift Trucks began designing the new N-series trucks, the issue of safety weighed heavily on their minds. They wanted the new truck to be among the safest and the best performing in the market, one that protects both operator and vehicle.
Adopting a two-pronged approach: the first focuses on the operator, the second focuses on the engine. This led to the development of the Presence Detection System (PDS) for the operator, and an engine protection system.
From safety studies, they found that major causes of lift truck accidents usually occur when the operator leaves his seat while the engine is still running. This is like leaving your car engine running unattended at the gas station. Through strategically positioned sensors, PDS will immobilize the lift truck when the operator stands up from his seat, preventing mast and travel movements.
There is also a neutral safety start feature that only allows the engine to start when transmission is in neutral, much like the latest automatic transmission cars. Other standard safety features include seat belt warning and parking brake alarm.
Cat® Lift Trucks engine protection system monitors engine oil pressure, coolant temperature, and transmission fluid temperature. This intelligent system lowers the engine’s max RPM when it detects coolant temperature reaching critical levels, limiting travel and hydraulic speeds. This protects the engine and its related functions from further strain and enhances the life of your lift truck. When any of the safety features are breeched, the advanced instrument panel flashes warning lamps to alert the operator of impending danger.
With these safety systems, both operators and owners can rest assure that their investment will be well protected.
